Collier County, Fla.—September 21, 2020: Voting is one of our most fundamental rights as American citizens, and while our office registers voters every day, National Voter Registration Day symbolizes a national effort to register voters and remind them to be election ready for the upcoming election.
I am honored to serve as Supervisor of Elections for one of the most active counties in the State of Florida. As Collier County continues to grow, we continue to not only see a rise in voter registrations, but also a rise in participation during elections. During the last Presidential General Election, in 2016, we led the state in participation with 87% of our voter population casting a ballot. In 2018, we continued to see a rise in participation breaking our own record in the midterm General Election by over 20%.
As we prepare for what will be one of our busiest elections, we are reminding voters to be election ready prior to casting their vote. Here are a few things our citizens can do to ensure a quick and pleasant voting experience.
-
Register to vote; registering to vote is quick and easy. Visit www.CollierVotes.com to register online or learn more about the other options you have to become a voter in Collier County.
-
Check your voter registration status; if you are already registered to vote, check to ensure your information is correct including your name, address and signature.
-
Study your ballot; voters will see a three-page ballot with several issues to review including six amendments to the Florida Constitution and one local referendum. Sample ballots are currently available on our website and voters are encouraged to study their ballot, print it and bring a marked copy with them should they decide to vote at the polls.
-
Have a plan for how you are going to vote; whether you decide to vote by mail or want to cast your ballot in-person during early voting or on Election Day, learn about what is required to cast your ballot.
-
Have a back-up plan; with the uncertainty that surrounds COVD-19, we encourage voters to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot. Voters who decide to vote in person can then bring it to their polling location for it to be cancelled.
As always, our staff is prepared to work with voters and future voters to help them prepare for the election. For more information or assistance on how you can prepare for the General Election, contact us at (239) 252-VOTE (8683) or visit www.CollierVotes.com.
Get out, vote and make a difference!
