Art for Democracy is an annual art contest hosted by the Collier County Supervisor of Elections office. The vision for Art for Democracy is to obtain, showcase and judge artwork that expresses what democracy means to our student artists in Collier County. There can be several facets to this expression including the many faces of democracy, preserving and promoting the democratic process or expressing the spirit of democracy. Winning students and schools receive recognition at an artists’ reception and a monetary prize.

ART FOR DEMOCRACY DISPLAY POLICY

The Art for Democracy program is an opportunity for students to express the spirit of democracy and participate in a conversation of civic engagement. Each piece of art is judged on the following criteria:

  • The art expresses one of the Art for Democracy topics expressed in Call for Entries (Faces of Democracy, The History of Democracy, the Voting Process).

  • The artist followed directions outlined in Call for Entries (medium, size, general theme, etc.).

  • The art is appealing.

  • The entry offers an understandable, accurate and persuasive message.

  • The graphics are balanced, striking and original.

The Supervisor of Elections will never alter original artwork.

When it comes to displaying artwork on the Supervisor of Elections’ website and on reproductions of the art in election publications, the Supervisor of Elections reserves the right to make changes to an entry for reasons that may include but are not limited to: misspellings, inaccurate information, candidate or political favoritism and revealing that of a minor student’s full identity.
