Getting students involved in the Electoral Process!

Collier County, FL—September 10, 2013: The Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office is challenging local high schools to get students registered for the upcoming 2014 and 2016 election cycle.

September 17 through September 27, Collier County High Schools will be challenged to get as many qualifying students to register or pre-register to vote in Collier County. The High School with the highest numbers after their registration drive will win public recognition and will be presented with a plaque from Jennifer J. Edwards, Supervisor of Elections.

In order to register to vote, residents must be legal US citizens and must be at least 18 years old. Students under 18 are encouraged to pre-register to vote as early as the age of 16, which will prepare them for future elections.

The Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office continues to strengthen its partnerships with Collier County schools and engage students in the democratic process by providing educational programs, conducting voter registration drives, and participating in other events that familiarize students with voting and the electoral process.

To learn more about voter outreach and educational programs provided by the Supervisor of Elections Office, contact Cyndi Young, Education Coordinator, at cynthiayoung@colliergov.net or call (239) 252-8450.
